Pollinator Garden
In 2018, Georges River Land Trust partnered with the Maine Master Gardener Volunteers to design a native plant pollinator garden in the parking area of the Langlais Preserve.
The project had three goals: to use native plants that feed pollinators and birds, can survive without supplemental water once established, and which would result in a beautiful garden that blooms from early spring to late fall. The planting design balances the season of bloom, plant height, and bloom color, plus adds some grasses for visual interest and seeds for birds.
The finished garden contains more than 20 plant species. More than 14 species of pollinators have been spotted in its midst: bees, bumblebees, hoverflies, hornets, yellow jackets, butterflies, lady beetles, and more. We’re happy to share our plant list with you.
